They're simply beautiful to watch together. The way she's not afraid to take chances. She dreams big dreams of their life together. All the while, he's holding her hand, loving and protecting her. This is going to be a year of many of these moments together.  The way he smiles at her. The way she naturally cuddles up to him.

They came back to Kernersville, North Carolina, where their story began, to capture their engagement session.  They've developed one of those sweet homegrown stories where the first page starts with a preschool encounter and, in the blink of an eye, developed into a love story all of their own throughout their high school and college days. And now, here they stand, at the brink of the rest of their lives together -- holding hands and stopping traffic (literally!).

We can't wait to watch your stories merge over the course of the next year, Georgia and David! We are thrilled to be able to capture your story , moment by moment.

Because I feel that, in the Heavens above,
The angels, whispering to one another,
Can find, among their burning terms of love,
None so devotional as that of “Mother,”

Congratulations, sweet Anna. You're best adventure in life is just beginning.

Will Holbrook - Senior Session https://www.shotinthesouthphotography.com/blog/2016/11/will-holbrook---senior-session A big congratulations is in order for our friend, Will, who is a senior at East Forsyth High School. With a bright future and positive attitude to match, Will is destined to accomplish all of the goals that he sets for himself.

One thing we know for sure: Will won't ever forget what got him to this point. One request that was received was that he wanted to revisit some of his favorite childhood spots: downtown Kernersville, Piney Grove Elementary's playground, and a shout out to his favorite Webster Bros. hat...a trip to Walkertown.

It was such a fun day!

Congrats, Will!

Megan Klein - Senior Year - Dancing in the Streets https://www.shotinthesouthphotography.com/blog/2016/11/megan-klein---senior-year---dancing-in-the-streets In life, if you're lucky, you'll have the opportunity to encounter people that just burst with goals and dreams. For those that work hard and put forth an immense amount of effort, those goals will become check marks on their list to accomplishing even more. For many of you reading this, I'm sure you are shaking your head in agreement as you think of Megan. Ask some people about Megan. I know they will all agree that this child has possessed this unreal amount of talent from an early age, and while we are stuck motionless in our seats at any of Megan's performances, we are just thrilled to be fans in her audience. As she enters adulthood and dances her way into what her heart desires, I know she'll have those of us captivated by her performances and sweet demeanor continuing to cheer her on.

Megan chose to incorporate her biggest fan - her momma - into her senior session photos. And how appropriate. Is there any bigger fan than a mother? Congratulations to you, sweet Megan. We are all so proud of you, and we can't wait to see you turn Los Angeles on their feet.

With so much love,

J. Fendley

Bringing home baby Chloe https://www.shotinthesouthphotography.com/blog/2016/11/bringing-home-baby-chloe My favorite sessions are the ones in which I am not only capturing the individual, but the individual at home or other special environment. I love the significance of it. The combination of life and where it is lived is what is most important about capturing these precious moments. It's especially rewarding for me, as a person who is invited in to a family's home, to watch them get to know their baby. It's such an intimate time in their life that will pass by far too quickly.

Meet baby Chloe, her parents, and her big puppy sister, Maggie.

With love,

J. Fendley

On Happiness https://www.shotinthesouthphotography.com/blog/2016/4/happiness Just about nine years ago, I was sitting in downtown Winston Salem watching two people cracking up at each other. He had the microphone and Johnny Cash's "A Boy Named Sue" was blasting away. She couldn't help but laugh hysterically at him. For that matter, everyone in the room couldn't contain their tipsy giggles. He didn't miss a beat to that song. Those were happy times.

I would see them from time to time. I'd get to know her as we watched our husbands play basketball in a small recreational league. Zoe would run circles around us. My daughter, just a toddler at the time, was right in behind her. She wanted to be just like Zoe (and she still does).

Their baby girl, Aadyn, was born just a week before my 2nd daughter. It still astonishes me just how much they act alike. Summer babies have an air to them that is all their own: independent, beautiful, and remarkably captivating. I now find my 3rd daughter wanting to be just like them.

You know what? Little girls really know how to live life. They're just so, so happy (until they're not!).

You see this gorgeous family, and you stop to think what you wouldn't give to be just.like.them;  they're happy. You can't ask for anything much better than that.

I've spent the last few weeks, as I'm sure many of you have, reading Heather's updates and wondering about how she is doing, and all the while never truly finding the right words to say.  I'll bet you've wanted to tell her that you would quit what you're doing at a moment's notice to help out. You've wanted to give them all a hug. You've wanted to bring them stockpiles of food so that they don't have to cook ...for years. You've wanted to bring them a smile. You've wanted to pull down the sunshine to their door, dividing up the clouds. You've wanted to discover the cure to cancer. You've wanted to prevent hurt.

Yet, despite the range of emotions that we are all feeling, they continue to lift all of us up.  And, through it all, you know what? Heather's happy, maybe not every second, but read her posts. See her pop out of a car a week after her surgery, and trudge through fields. Watch her interact with her daughters. She's remarkable.

Heather and Justin have found ways to find their happiness in each other and in their family and friends. While we all stumble over the right words to say, Heather's up in the middle of the night making plans. She's living her life in her moments. You know what? We want to be like that. She makes us strive to be better to each other, and to ourselves, and she reminds us that we  should all be so very thankful.

Watching them reminds me that you make your happiness. It doesn't mean that every moment is filled with good karaoke in an Irish bar, the birth of a child, or that it even goes without pain. But, our lives are filled with precious moments. As we watch Justin, Heather, Zoe, and Aadyn go through this moment and the next together, it's clear that we should cherish it all. Heather has shown us all so much love and compassion, and now, we can pay that forward through our own actions.

So, while we all stand back and watch their story evolve, it's important to listen to Heather's message.  Maybe, in the end, we can all find our happiness, too. You know why? It's because she's showing us all just how it's done.

Go find your moments and live {happily} within all of life's experiences.

A McGee Wedding https://www.shotinthesouthphotography.com/blog/2016/3/a-mcgee-wedding Introducing the McGees: Shelby & Dennis!

Because Saturdays on Elm and McGee Streets in Greensboro always lend to a perfect mixture of surprise and excitement, Shelby's choice to use Natty Green's as the venue was not only exciting to me, but a personal & favorite go-to hangout.

The Setting? Simply amazing. Shelby's touch of southern charm and class was apparent in every detail of the night.
